Healing water

My personal experience reading the noble Healing Water by Joice Moyer Hostette. It was positive in many areas, the main idea was to integrate more with Hawaiian culture and learn much more about its roots, since I decided to be part of this culture. In the first chapter it was a little difficult to get used to the terminologies in Hawaiian language, also to be able to distinguish the main actors by their names like Kimi, Kamaka’s, Pia.Then we found as the novel deepened with the plot that Pia as the main actor was seven years apart from Kamaka. I observed how Kamaka influenced Pia’s life so much that it was affecting his emotions and personal decisions. The nobleman shows very clearly the importance of the family (ohana) also, as the mother of Pia suffers when she finds that he was going to be separated from her son forever due to his disease that did not have a cure back then. The writer shows how making a decision, Pia was affected when he made a bad decision in Kalawao when he moved to live with the wrong man like Boki’s. We also saw people with a very nice heart and full of love with others like Maka Nui, Keona Malia and Father Damien. In his most difficult moments, he shows how anger, resentment and ignorance of a bitter and defiant man dares to go to Kamaka’s house to challenge him and even kill him for past situations that only demonstrated his lack of persistence. After all it appeared Malia was a channel of blessing in Pia’s life to teach her that with resentment she could not solve things like when she saw him at her house and she forgave him despite what he did, she invited him to have a cup of coffee and showed him care. A missionary also arrived and showed the entire community of Kalawao how they should be united, by helping each other and have a better life style on the island. Pia had a disagreement with his best friend named Kamaka in his past, he learned to forgive him and looked at him more as human being than as a hero and he was able to carry his illness with more peace in his heart and enjoy everything that life gave him in Kalawao. We enjoyed the story about Healing Water it was great information regarding Hawaiian culture. We were expecting a different ending but gained a wonderful lesson in my personal life that forgiveness and love make us better humans.
